Care After Lipoabdominoplasty
- Most patients get a combination of a tummy tuck and a liposuction.
- Soakage is common to find upto the 1st post-operative day. Dressings are usually changed before the patient gets discharged from the hospital.
- They may be put on a pressure garment extending from the under breast area upto the knees.
- Patients are encouraged to move or walk around within the confines of their homes.
- Patients are encouraged to drink plenty of liquids to keep their hydration optimal and for faster wound healing, and also to avoid formation of blood clots.
- Dressings are changed once in 3-4 days till such time the suture lines are dry and healed completely.
- You may be advised to use a good moisturizer to keep the skin smooth and supple.
- Strictly avoid rigorous physical activity like sports and back stretching of your lower abdomen, lifting heavy weights, climbing stairs for a period of 6-8 weeks.
- Lymphatic massages are advised by your team of plastic surgeons to reduce the post-operative swelling, lumps and also to improve the contours. This is usually done for a period of 15-30 minutes, twice daily for a period of 4-6 weeks. Massages are done till the swelling in the operated site completely settles.
- You may be advised to apply scar reduction creams for a period of 2-3 months to lighten up or to reduce the prominent scars. Lasers may be advised to lighten up the scars in a select group of patients.
Care after breast surgeries
You may be made to wear a surgical support bra for a period of 4-6 weeks.
- Lifting or Raising of arms beyond 30 degrees is forbidden for a period of 7-10 days, as it may cause a strain on the suture line.
- All sutures are absorbable and their removal may not be required.
- Lymphatic Massages for the breast is usually started after 1week and to be continued for a period of 4-6 weeks.
