Dimples.

Mostly dimples are hereditary in nature. They occur naturally when there is a defect in the cheek musculature or abnormal insertion of facial musculature. The skin in the defect gets wedged into the connective tissue, creating dimples in the cheeks on smiling. Dimpleplasty is a surgical procedure to create dimple on the face artificially to enhance the facial attractiveness and smile

Procedure.

This is a relatively simple procedure and can be performed under local anaesthesia as a day care procedure. Dimples can be created by a simple procedure where in special threads strategically placed behind the corner of the mouth. One may be able to resume most normal activities following the procedure. Since the procedure is performed inside the mouth, there is no obvious tell tale sign of surgery from outside.

Side Effects.

Pain in the operated area, and difficulty in chewing may last for 3-4 days. Rarely this may be associated with bleeding, infection, scar formation at the operated area, and foreign body granuloma.

Post Operative Care for Dimpleplasty

Immediately after the surgery
  • It’s very important to follow the post procedure care to ensure proper recovery. Since the oral cavity is a source of bacteria, proper care has to be maintained.
The weeks that follow
  • An antiseptic mouthwash has to be used a couple of times a day to keep the site as germ free as possible. Suitable antibiotics may be prescribed to help with faster healing.
  • You may be advised to follow strictly liquid diet for a period of 5-7 days.
Full recovery timeline
  • Over animated facial expressions should be avoided for better results during the healing phase.

Yes. You may find a circular scar around the areola which is barely visible and an inverted J shaped scar on the underside of the breast which will fade with strict adherence to scar modulation protocol (scar reduction creams, scar massages, silicone gel sheets and lasers if required)
