Diet Tips After Liposuction

Diet Tips to maintain

  • Liposuction provides a quick, safe and effective solution for permanent removal of unwanted, excess stubborn fat deposits from different areas of the body which is diet and exercise resistant, and almost produces instant results with desired silhouette. Many patients will have the common question about the longevity of the results “can fat return after the liposuction surgery?”

  • It is important to note that liposuction does indeed permanently remove fat cells from the body from targeted areas.

  • Remember that liposuction is not a substitute for weight-loss and it is not a safeguard against weight gain.
  • Can fat return after surgery?

    • Unfortunately, it is possible for fat to return after liposuction… if you allow it to come back. In general, the more weight gained by a patient after liposuction, the less dramatic their results will
      be.
    • When you lose weight, by diet or exercise, all your fat cells shrink in size, but they do not
      disappear.
    • With liposuction the cells themselves are removed and are therefore not available to become
enlarged again. A good result is guaranteed only if you can maintain a good diet and exercise
regime postoperatively, otherwise the existing fat cells enlarge and cause irregularity in skin
      appearance.
    • While slight weight gain can diminish results, the overall improved body shape provided by a
liposuction procedure will still be visible as treated body areas have less fat cells and therefore
less enlargement rate compared to surrounding areas.
    • In cases of considerable weight gain (i.e. 10% of their body weight) new fat cells can develop in
all areas of the body, including treated areas. However, since new fat cell creation typically occurs
in an even manner throughout the body, fat often accumulates less in treated areas compared to
untreated areas. Thus many liposuction patients who gain considerable post-procedure weight
tend to still look better than if they did not undergo liposuction.

  • Tips to make the results of your liposuction last longer
  • The most effective way to maintain the results of any liposuction procedure over the long-term is to maintain your ideal weight. Here are 6 general healthy lifestyle changes to adopt following your procedure:

    • Follow all post-procedure instructions provided by your team of surgeons.
    • Reduce caloric intake while eating a healthy diet focused on protein and healthy carbohydrates.
    • Stay properly hydrated by drinking lots of water.
    • Try eating several smaller meals throughout the day.
    • Never skip meals.
    • Exercise regularly.

If you just had liposuction, you are probably close to your target weight. Simply maintaining this weight is much easier than losing it, and you can do it without starving yourself. It requires a little bit of discipline, and an understanding of nutrition.

    Dietary Choices

  • Drink lots of Water
    • Increasing the amount of water you drink can help you to lose weight as well as keep your weight stable. For the best outcome, it’s recommended that you drink about 6-8 glasses of water per day to lose weight and to maintain weight loss.
    • This helps to maintain hydration to the tissues in the operated areas.Helping the body burn more calories via a resting energy expenditure of calories.
    • Reducing body size. Not only does drinking water help you lose weight, but it also reduces a person’s body mass index (BMI), waist size and body fat. So if you had liposuction performed to remove body fat, drinking water can keep that body fat off.

  • Make Healthy Dietary Choices
    • Your liposuction smoothed out the bulging areas of your body. Now is not the time to revert to bad eating habits and put the bulges back on! One way to keep extra fat off is to eat a healthy diet that is low in fat, sugar, and processed food.
    • For a healthy diet, choose low-fat, lean foods full of protein, vegetables, fruit, and low-fat meat with visible fat removed. Make sure you have plenty of fiber in your diet, and focus on cooking methods
like broiling, boiling, and baking instead of frying or using a lot of butter.

  • First two weeks after Liposuction
  • For two or three weeks, you must follow the surgeon’s instructions, which will also indicate lymphatic massages for having the best recovery.

Your body must receive nutrients, but without overdoing it, to prevent you from recovering the lost fat. Remember to choose natural foods that contain Vitamin A, C, and D.

    • Vitamin A: is necessary for tissue recovery, cell function, and immune function. Whole milk, liver, and fortified foods.
    • Vitamin C: Citrus fruits such as lemon, orange and grapefruit, kiwi, and other fruits. This vitamin has some anti-inflammatory benefits.
    • Vitamin D: Protects against inflammation and promotes muscle recovery. Fish, meat, egg yolks, and some fortified foods.

  • What to eat against inflammation?
  • Omega-3 fats such as extra virgin olive oil and others.

    • Vegetables and fruits, Spinach, broccoli, dark green leafy vegetables.
    • Eggs are very rich in the mineral antioxidant selenium, which has been shown to reduce post-surgical swelling and promote recovery.
    • Foods rich in fiber: Plums, beans and legumes, apples, pears, bran, oatmeal, and flax seed flour.
    • Pineapple and papaya. They help process protein and reduce swelling.

  • Stay away from these foods!
    • Refined carbohydrates such as flours, sugars, and other processed foods.
    • Omega-6 fats found in corn, safflower, sunflower, peanut, and soybean oil.: Cakes, sweetbreads, cookies, margarine, and others.

  • Protein foods
    • Seafood, lean meat, milk, nuts.
    • Lean meats, like chicken, Fish and seafood.

Red meat is not recommended because of its high level of saturated fat.

If you select healthy foods, your liposuction results will be surprisingly easy to maintain. Drink water, exercise, keep moving, make healthy food choices, and reduce stress in your life. Not only are these five steps a good idea for optimal health, but they keep fat
off, too and help you maintain your awesome liposuction look.
