Dark Circles

Under-eye dark circles are common in men and women. Eye bags often accompany them. Dark Circles can make you look older and can also become permanent if not treated in time. Depending on your multifactorial, you should identify these factors and target these issues to resolve the dark circle problem and get that spark and radiance back in you.

Factors leading to dark circles

  • Allergies
  • Eye Allergies and Dry eyes can be significant reasons for dark circles. Nasal Allergies can also lead to dark circles in some cases, also known as allergic shiners.

  • Fatigue
  • Oversleeping, extreme fatigue, or an irregular sleep schedule can cause dark circles under your lower eyelids. Sleep deprivation can cause your skin to become dull and pale, allowing dark tissues and blood vessels beneath your skin to show, considered dark circles. Lack of sleep can also cause fluid to build underneath your eyes, causing them to appear puffy. Therefore, causing a shadow cast by your puffy eyes, resulting in looking like dark circles.

  • Rubbing of eyes continuously
  • Continuous rubbing of the eyes causes blood vessels in the eyelids to break and leak blood. As a result, blood pools under the skin and creates dark circles. Regular eye rubbing over an extended period can also lead to a condition known as keratoconus.

  • Smoking
  • Smoking damages skin cells and robs them of specific vitamins, including the repairman, vitamin C. If you are a smoker, your skin is dehydrated and thirsty and serves to aggravate circles and bags under the eyes.

  • Excessive Sun Exposure
  • Overexposure to the sun can cause your body to produce an excess of melanin, the pigment that provides your skin with colour. Pigmentation/dark skin near the eye is caused by extreme sun exposure.

  • Hormonal disorder
  • Your family history also plays a vital role in developing dark circles under your eyes. It can be an inherited trait seen early in your childhood and may worsen as you age or slowly disappear. Inherited medical conditions like thyroid can also be one of the reasons for dark circle appearance.

  • Underlying Health Conditions
  • Anaemia or an iron deficiency can result in dark circles since the oxygen reaching the body tissues is insufficient. Liver problems can also be a cause. Any medications that make blood vessels dilate can cause eye circles to darken.

  • Drinking
  • Alcohol dehydrates your skin. After a few drinks, the thin skin around your eyes can appear dark, red, and puffy. A night of heavy drinking can also make it difficult to sleep, making under-eye bags worse.

  • Quick Lifestyle Tips To Avoid Dark Circles Under Your Eyes.
    • Keep yourself adequately hydrated.

    • Focus on a proper sleep cycle.

    • De-stress yourself by different means like listening to music, meditation, yoga, walking, spend quality time for yourself

    • Invest some time and money in your body and skincare. Buy only good quality and verified cosmetic products.

    Home Remedies for Dark Circles

  • Ice packs
  • A cold compress can help reduce swelling and also helps in shrinking the dilated blood vessels. This can reduce the appearance of puffiness and help eliminate dark circles. Wrap a few ice cubes in a clean washcloth and apply to your eyes. You can also dampen a washcloth with cold water and apply it to the skin under your eyes for 20 minutes for the same effect.

  • Mint leaves
  • Mint Leaves are rich in vitamin C, which is effective in treating under eye dark circles and results in healthy skin. Applying a paste of crushed mint leaves under your eyes for 10-15 minutes gives good results.

  • Cold Tea Bags
  • Tea contains caffeine and antioxidants that can help stimulate blood circulation, shrink your blood vessels, and reduce liquid retention beneath your skin. Soak two black or green tea bags in hot water for around five minutes. Let them chill in the refrigerator for 15 to 20 minutes and apply it to your closed eyes for approximately 10 to 15 minutes. Rinse your eyes after removing the tea bags.

  • Cotton Pads
  • Dip the cotton pad in rose water and turmeric and apply it evenly on your eye with full covers for over 10 to 15 minutes. Rinse your eyes properly after removing the cotton bags

  • Healthy diet suggestions
  • Broccoli, Cabbage and dark green veggies are rich in vitamin K, which again helps fight against the dark circles. All citrus fruits, strawberries and broccoli are rich in vitamin C, which helps in lightening the dark circles.

  • Retinoids
  • You can also use Retinoids cream and have food rich with retinoids like carrot, papaya, sweet potato and cheese to avoid under-eye dark circles.

  • Refreshing cucumber
  • Cucumbers contain a protein that tightens the skin and makes the skin look smooth and supple. It also helps to lighten the dark spots and soothes the skin.

Take a cucumber and then slice it into circular pieces. Once done, put it in the refrigerator for at least 20 to 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, place them on your dark circles to instantly feel refreshed eyes.

  • Potato slices
  • To use this remedy, you need to grate some raw potatoes and extract the juice. Dip the cotton balls into the potato extract juice and apply them for 15 to 20 minutes under your eye to see an effective result.

  • Almond Oil/Vitamin E- K oil
  • Massage your eyes gently with almond oil, vitamin E- K oil and fresh aloe vera gel once in a while under your eye to keep the skin hydrated and moisturized.

  • Vitamin K Serum
  •  Vitamin K serum encourages collagen production, helps in the growth of new cells, and avoids dark circles.

  • Vitamin C
  • Vitamin C serums prevent our skin from sun damage and help in lightening the dark spots. All citrus fruits, strawberries and broccoli are rich in vitamin C.

  • Vitamin B3
  • Vitamin B3 in the form of Niacinamide cream and Vitamin infused concealers help to work against dark circles.

  • Treatment recommendations for Dark Circles
    • CO2 Laser

It helps to resurface your skin and tightens the skin in the desired area to reduce dark circles.

    • Microneedling

The process promotes the growth of new collagen in your skin, encouraging your skin to heal itself, reducing the appearance of the ice pick, boxcar, and rolling acne scars.

    • Platelet-rich plasma therapy(PRP)

PRP is an autologous preparation containing many platelets concentrated into a small volume of plasma. PRP provides various growth factors which aid in quick wound healing. It is used as adjuvant therapy for acne scars.

    • Fat injections

Fat injections are considered superior in depressed atrophic scars because of their filling character. In managing acne sequelae and dark circles, the fatty tissue is injected homogeneously under the dermis to release the fibrosis instead of achieving a local volumizing effect.

Little effort and good practice will help you to achieve exceptional results for handling your under-eye dark circles.

Change in habits and lifestyle management is always considered the best way to treat any medical issues if detected in time.
